Words from an unknown poet eBook Brendan Clark Reviews

I found this book of poems very refreshing, and the best I've read in years. The book suits everybody, from children to adults, and is a very very good read - well done! I've read many books of poetry over the years - one of my favourite subjects - and this book of poems is the best I've even seen in about twenty years. For all ages...
When I first started reading this, I was thinking, We have a lot of grammatical issues here, a lot of errors-but then I realized as an author and an avid reader, I was really breaking one of my own rules. When I write, I try very hard to help the reader hear the voice, either mine as the author, or that of the character. And when I read, I love it when an author has the ability to help me hear their voice. I can hear this young man's voice, and to me that is the most important part of his work. He has a very positive can do attitude, which I also like. "My World Dedication Poem" was my favorite. Referring to the city he obviously loves, Chicago, he describes it variously as a place where he might go to college, as a place that is a war zone, a place where people go crazy, laugh and dream. The thing that struck me about that, is that, yes, we must rise out of adversity-if not for adversity, we would have no strength. It reminds me of the story, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. They keep trying to defeat the trees, they cut them down, they pull them out, but those trees will rise, they break concrete and pavement, and those trees defeat adversity and they WILL grow, again and again. Those trees are our young people, and I am impressed with this particular young man, who was born with the talent to make a project like this and with the drive to cause it to happen. I hope he will keep going upward. I hope he will have all the chances he needs.
